Hackers left several students and instructors at the University of California, Irvine reportedly vomiting and crying after they posted videos of harming people and animals to a student-run group on the social media platform.
According to the Orange County Register, the gory video sent the college community into a tailspin on January 9, with several students allegedly requiring hospitalization following the incident.
Alina Kim, who helped coordinate the hacking response by a student-run Discord group, told the Register that “some of the things I saw I definitely couldn’t have seen.”
“Some individuals were reported to be hospitalized with vomiting, panic attacks, traumatic reactions,” he said. “This is something that has a real psychological impact.”
About 3,000 people were reportedly exposed to graphic material while on the Discord website before moderators blocked the hackers’ access.

Discord is a social media platform where users can make voice calls, video calls and instant messages with each other.
Kim told a local channel that the hackers had been identified, but their identities were being withheld because they appeared to be seeking publicity.
He said the attackers demanded a $1,000 ransom to prevent them from posting the video for another month.
UC Irvine did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
