UK mom of two ‘chokes to death’ in marshmallow-eating contest

A British mother-of-two reportedly choked to death during a marshmallow-eating contest to raise money for her son’s rugby team.

Natalie Buss, 37, took to the stage at a fundraiser for Beddau RFC in Wales on Saturday night after winning a place in the eating challenge in an early bingo game, according to the Daily Mail.

He was happily stuffing marshmallows into his mouth when he suddenly collapsed, onlookers said.

“The DJ and everyone in the audience were counting when every marshmallow went in his mouth,” another mum at the fundraiser told the Mail.

“He laughed at the same time, and it was like sucking the marshmallow further into his mouth,” said the unidentified mother.

“One minute everyone is having fun and being silly; next, he was on the floor.

“It’s horrible to see it happen in front of you,” he said.

Everyone jumped into action, the woman said, but it was too late.

“Paramedics went forward to help, and someone said they had gone for a defibrillator on the opposite school wall,” he recounted. “But it didn’t help – his airway was blocked by marshmallows.”

The official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Beddau RFC described the incident as a “tragic accident,” but would not confirm what part Buss played in the marshmallow-eating contest or who organized the event, according to The Times of London.

In an online statement, the party club said it had “lost a dear friend who will be sadly missed.”

“Everyone associated with Beddau RFC and in the community has been nothing short of devastated by this weekend’s tragic accident, and we struggle to understand people’s feelings of loss,” the rugby club said.

“This said, we must acknowledge that our loss is insignificant compared to the loss of a woman who was a wonderful wife, mother and daughter to a truly tragic event.

“As a club, we send our sincere condolences to all the families, close friends, and to all those who have had a severe impact – you are all in our thoughts today.”

The family is now awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Once that’s done, local authorities are expected to open an investigation into Buss’ sudden death.

She is survived by her husband, Elliot, and their two sons.
