Ukrainian sniper uses ‘Horizon’s Lord’ rifle to take out Russian soldier from 2½ miles away

A Ukrainian sniper took out a Russian soldier from nearly 2½ miles away with a high-tech rifle known as “Horizon’s Lord” — breaking the world record for the longest sniper kill, Ukraine said.

The record-setting sniper used the Ukrainian-made Volodar Obriyu rifle, which translates to “Horizon’s Lord,” to shoot enemy soldiers from 3,800 meters, or 2.3 miles — more than 40 US football fields — away.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) noted the record-breaking achievement in a statement, crowing, “New world record: SBU sniper destroys orcs [Russian soldier] from a distance of 3.8 km.

“An SBU sniper set a world record for successful shooting,” he said.

“He took aim at a Russian soldier from an incredible distance of 3,800 meters,” the unit said, according to the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

“SBU snipers changed the rules of world sniping, demonstrating the ability to work effectively at great distances,” the statement added.

The previous record is believed to be held by a Canadian soldier who hit a target from a distance of 2.2 miles in Iraq in 2017.

Raw footage of the reported record-setting footage, which has yet to be confirmed, was shared across Telegram channels.

Two figures can be seen in the footage, highlighted in a circle indicating the area targeted by the sniper.

After three shots were fired, the two figures fell to the ground before crawling away.

It is unclear when or where the shots were taken.

In November 2022, the Ukrainian military claimed it recorded the second longest combat kill in history after one of its snipers shot dead a Russian soldier from a distance of 1.68 miles.

A dramatic video shared by the Ukrainian military’s Office of Strategic Communications shows an enemy soldier falling after being hit by a round, fired from the equivalent of about 30 football fields.

“The resident was eliminated by the accurate fire of our special forces,” the government organization said.

The hit marks “a distance that currently ranks second in the world ranking, confirmed by the command of the Armed Forces,” he added.
