Ukrainian soldiers in a mobile air defense unit have been training at a secret location in northern Ukraine as Russia continues to attack the country with hundreds of drone strikes.
In the past two months, Russia has launched more than 800 drones to bomb Ukraine, including the biggest attack on Kyiv since the start of the war on Saturday, according to Ukraine’s Air Force and Defense Intelligence.
Military officials say Moscow maintains a stockpile of 870 cruise and ballistic missiles for its main offensive on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, planning to repeat tactics from last winter.
At an undisclosed location in the north of the country, Ukrainian trainers pilot fake drones made to mimic Iranian-made Shahed drones used by Russia, as machine-gun and anti-aircraft men mounted on pickup trucks aim into the air. weapons, reports ABC News.
“Everything we had, every bit of help we got, we used to create mobile fire groups to fill every inch of space here,” said Lt. General Serhiy Nayev, who oversees the defense of Ukraine’s Northern border, told the outlet.

In one test, soldiers fired thousands of rounds using anti-aircraft weapons at a small drone, which suffered minimal damage; in real combat, the Ukrainian military had to resort to expensive Western air defense systems – a last resort – to take out the weapons, the outlet reported.
Nayev said that despite training hundreds of mobile air defense forces to prepare for Russian airstrikes, technology was “critical” to Ukraine’s defense.
“Targets that, according to the old Soviet-style technology, it is necessary to spend 100 bullets – with the help of Western technology, much less is needed, and it is measured in numbers up to 10, so the technology always exceeds that number,” Nayev told ABC News.
