Underwear-stealing burglar rearranged stalking victim’s home during heist: Idaho cops

An “armed and dangerous” makeshift burglar broke into the home of a woman he was stalking – and even took the time to rearrange one of his victim’s pieces of furniture, Idaho police said.

Jacob Smart, 38, was named Thursday as the man they have been hunting for the past several months for committing several burglaries in Boise.

The robber was caught on multiple surveillance videos casually walking onto his victim’s property, at one point feeling comfortable enough to pet the homeowner’s dog as he followed it around the yard.

He also forced his way inside several times by kicking the door, the video shows.

Once inside his victim’s home, Smart allegedly grabbed their underwear, debit and credit cards, weapons and more.

In at least one instance, Smart did some redecorating, according to police.

“In one burglary, the suspect moved personal items inside the home,” Boise Police said.

“In another burglary incident, the suspect entered the house while the victim was sleeping, stole the house key and was then seen on surveillance video then tried to re-enter the house but the victim had already changed the key.”

Smart is accused of committing five burglaries in Boise between August and October 2023 and may have continued his robberies across state lines.

Various stolen items – including some from the Boise victim – were recently recovered when he was picked up in Oregon, but Smart fled when police tried to arrest him.
