Union Pacific train crashes into semi-truck, derails in frightening moment caught on video in Texas

A Texas train crashed into a semi truck stuck on its tracks over the weekend, causing the locomotive to derail in a terrifying moment captured by a witness.

An 18-wheeler was stuck on the tracks near Aledo when a Union Pacific train came through and hit it shortly before 10 a.m., the Texas Department of Safety said, according to local station Fox4.

Video taken by a man sitting in a nearby car shows the train blowing its whistle before slamming into the semi-truck at full speed.

The train lifted the truck, which had a large load, into the air when it hit and pushed it to the side of the tracks in a cloud of dust, according to the clip.

“The whole train will derail. Oh my… Look at the train! It’s upside down,” said the man behind the camera, Samuel Ingram, in the video.

The footage shows each train turning onto its side from the tracks one by one.

Two train engines and 17 trains derailed in total, according to the Texas Department of Safety.

The train conductor was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Fox4 reported.

Diesel fuel and oil were spilled as a result of the collision but did not pose a threat to the public, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters, hazmat crews and emergency responders worked to contain the fuel spill.

No other chemicals were released and no hazmat threat was reported.

The crash happened at the intersection along FM 5 at Annetta Centerpoint Road. The section of FM5 near the incident was closed for most of the day as crews worked to clear the runway and road.
