In the year 1600 the British kings came to India for the purpose of doing business under the name of the East India Company. They traded in cotton, tea, and silk but their motives were ruthless which soon came to the surface and they enslaved the entire country.

When they evilly took over the country they started harassing the Indians. When atrocities against Indians began, voices began to rise against the cruel British rulers.

The first voice was the rebellion of 1857 when Indians were fed up with the British dictatorship and Indians decided to end it. Mangal Pandey was the first Indian soldier to take a stand in 1857 and this was the period when the struggle for freedom began. The rebellion of 1857 was the first Indian struggle against the British and it was a shock to the British dictator.

When the revolution started in 1857 it must have started to fade. One movement after another was started by political leaders and brave sons of India. All these movements began to protect India and steer the course towards freedom.

Another major movement was the civil disobedience movement against the British monopoly on salt. This movement was started by Gandhi and it is better known as the famous Dandi March.
