Upstate NY woman who ‘roughly’ changed diaper is charged with murder of boyfriend’s baby

An upstate New York woman has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend’s baby after she admitted shaking the baby and “roughly” changing its diaper.

Tiara Kelsea Allen, 26, of north St. Lawrence County, was arrested July 13 for recklessly assaulting a child and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Legal and Criminal court documents published Monday.

The baby, named only as Conway, died the following month after suffering bilateral subdural hematomas, or brain hemorrhages, the outlet reported.

A grand jury in a rural county bordering Canada handed up an indictment on Nov. 17 charging Allen with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and first-degree assault, documents show.

Allen’s initial statement to police indicated that he “caused Conway’s injuries.”

“I took Conway out of the mosquito net and put him on my bed. I went to the bathroom and when I came back Conway was chatty. I tried to calm him down and nothing worked,” Allen told police.

“I took Conway and took my anger out on him and I shouldn’t have done that. I picked it up with both hands and shook it back and forth in frustration and anger.”

The suspect then told police he started changing the baby’s diaper and getting him dressed for the day.

“When I changed his nappy, he had a poo and it went up his back. I roughly changed Conway’s diaper by grabbing her leg and forcefully pushing her leg to change it. I am disappointed and angry at this time,” the signed statement said.

A short time later, the baby became a “limb,” and Allen called 911 and told the operator that he was bleeding from his nose, according to his statement.

“I believe I caused Conway’s injury. I should have walked away from the situation and come back to him later, but it’s hard when he’s fussy.”

Allen pleaded not guilty to the charges and cash bail was set at $250,000, records show. He is due in court next month for a hearing.
