Urooj Ashfaq was born on Thursday, 24 August 1995 (age 25 years; as in 2020). He grew up in Abu Dhabi and moved to Mumbai when he was twelve years old. He did his schooling from Ryan International School, Mumbai. Later, he pursued his graduation in psychology from Jai Hind College, Mumbai. He won several stand-up comedy competitions while he was in Mumbai; until she finally made her debut in Queens of Comedy (2017), India’s first female stand-up comedy show.

Urooj Ashfaq started his career as a comedy content writer in 2014. He worked with Abish Mathew for his show, ‘Son of Abish,’ a comedy talk show. Controversy
- Urooj Ashfaq participated in the anti-CAA rally, which was held at the historic August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. Thousands of protesters have gathered there to protest the Citizenship Act. Apparently, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act received a lot of criticism for discriminating on the basis of religion, as protesters believed that the CAA was communal and discriminated against Muslims. Urooj uploaded a picture on Instagram, holding a banner with a message for the country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He was criticized by his fans and followers for behaving like an illiterate, and not understanding the amendment.
- On March 19, 2018, Urooj was once again criticized for being insensitive to Hinduism. He tweeted that beef should be cooked in ‘Yagnya,’ a Hindu religious ceremony, to be held in Madhya Pradesh. Hindus consider cows as sacred animals. Thus, the statement provoked their anger. Even after being slammed on social media, he did not agree to apologize for his statement. Instead, in his successive tweets, he had the audacity to say that he would do it more often.

- Urooj started touring and performing at open mics to optimize his gap year with his friend Sumaira Shaikh who is also a stand-up comedian. Earlier, Urooj had completed his studies in psychology and was trying to get admission in various colleges for his masters. To his dismay, he was not accepted by any college, and thus, he had a gap year.
