All six crew members aboard a US Navy helicopter miraculously survived a crash in San Diego Bay Thursday afternoon, according to reports.
The MH-60R helicopter hit the water at about 6:40 p.m., Navy Cmdr. Beth Teach, spokeswoman for the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, confirmed to Fox 5 San Diego.
The helicopter was performing a routine exercise when it crashed.
“Due to the nature of the exercise, a safety boat was on site and, with the assistance of the Federal Fire Service, all six crew members survived and were quickly evacuated to shore,” Teach said.
“All personnel are currently undergoing medical evaluation.”
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
