US nurse Alix Dorsainvil ‘holds no grudges’ against gang members who kidnapped her in Haiti

The American nurse who was detained in Haiti earlier this month with her daughter said Monday that she had “no grudge” against her captors – and even offered to treat them at her clinic.

Alix Dorsainvil, sitting in a manicured garden with crickets chirping in the background, offered a message of forgiveness for the “gangsters” who demanded ransom after abducting her and her son from the Christian El Roi compound her husband oversees.

“To the gangsters, I have a message for you: I want you all to know that everything I said while I was in custody was sincere,” said Dorsainvil, speaking in Haitian Creole, in a video posted to the Christian group’s blog. Monday.

“They are not the manipulative words of someone desperate to escape, but only the truth, especially when I tell you the door of my clinic is always open to you or anyone in need.”

Despite his ordeal, Dorsainvil said he would still keep his promise to treat the group members for any illness if they went to his clinic.

More shockingly, the New Hampshire-born nurse said she forgave the man who held her and her baby hostage for a reported $1 million ransom.

“I want you to know that I do not hold a grudge against you in my heart. That doesn’t mean I agree with what you’re doing. Especially what you did to your own Haitian brothers,” he said.

“Although the ransom was paid and the victims were released, this event left a scar in their hearts. That will never go away.”

Despite offering forgiveness, Dorsainvil slammed his captors for committing violence in pursuit of “happiness, satisfaction, money, power and status to fill the void in [their] heart.”

“But I want you to know that those things won’t really satisfy you. They won’t fill the void in your heart,” he said, before adding that only religion can help.

Dorsainvil did not offer any additional details about the kidnapping, including whether or not a large extortion fee was paid.

She and her daughter were abducted by gunmen who stormed the compound on July 27 while they were conducting a community ministry service.

They were released unharmed 13 days later thanks to the efforts of US law enforcement and State Department representatives, El Roi Haiti said.

The Christian non-profit organization is headed by Dorsanvail’s husband, Sandro Dorsainvil, who is the father of the child held captive by the unknown thug.

While it’s not entirely clear who kidnapped the couple, Dorsanvail’s cell phone pinged a region controlled by the Canaan gang — a brutal criminal organization known for kidnappings.

Dr. Samson Marseille, director of Haiti’s epidemiology department, was kidnapped the same day as Dorsainvil and his son but has not yet been released.

Because of the increase in kidnappings, the US ordered government employees and non-emergency family members to leave Haiti as soon as possible, citing “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and poor health care infrastructure.”
