The storyline about the August 2021 traffic stop in Utah involving Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie is taking a new turn.
The former couple was traveling cross-country on a National Park tour when they were pulled over by the Moab County Police Department.
A passerby claimed to have seen Laundrie hit Petito and called it a domestic violence incident. The traffic stop took place on August 12, 2021.

An outside investigation found two officers who responded in Moab, UT made several mistakes.
On November 3, 2022, Petito’s parents and legal team filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Moab City Police Department in Utah.
One of the family’s attorneys, James W. McConkie, also announced that new information was discovered by Gabby’s family that one of the officers, Eric Pratt, who spoke to their daughter during traffic is accused of having a history of domestic abuse.
“[Pratt] is a domestic abuser, who has used force and threats of physical violence to control and intimidate sexual partners,” according to another Petito family attorney, Brian Stewart.

He believes the officer was “basically biased and probably ignored Gabby.”
Her parents have amended the lawsuit and claim Officer Pratt said Laundrie “looked like a mental and emotional bully,” but treated her like a victim rather than an aggressor.
“Officer Pratt has also admitted, ‘I think he is an emotional threat to her. I think he’s a mental threat to her.’ Likewise, she said she concluded during the traffic stop that Brian ‘seemed like a mental and emotional bully,'” the amended complaint said.
The amendment also states, “Officer Pratt also colorfully admitted, ‘I know this type of man. Brian doesn’t get away with being cute. Brian shows more red flags than a Chinese communist rally.’”

Laundrie and Petito were separated for the evening, but were able to continue their journey the next day.
About two weeks later, Petito’s parents believe this is when Laundrie strangled him to death.
The amended lawsuit accuses Officer Pratt and other officers of improperly investigating the incident.
“Gabby’s murder could have been prevented if the officers had acted properly,” he claimed.
Last month Explosion reported on the photo of Petito being dug up looking bruised and bleeding.
The law firm for Parker & McConkie first mentioned the photo’s existence in a November 2022 wrongful-death lawsuit against the City of Moab Police Department.
The disturbing photo was taken by Gabby just before police pulled over her white convertible van for reckless driving. Laundrie was driving a car at the time of the traffic stop.

“According to available data, the image was taken at 4:37 p.m., at or before the estimated time of the initial 911 call,” the family’s attorney said in a statement Tuesday.
The civil complaint states that “Gabby took pictures of her injuries, which showed blood on her nose and left eye.”
Gabby reportedly showed her injuries to Moab Police Officer Eric Pratt.
Her family argued that Officer Pratt ignored her and “did nothing further to investigate or document the injury.”
