Elon Musk’s new “Chief Twit” decided to suspend comedian Kathy Griffin – but not Valerie Bertinelli – despite the fact that they both impersonated her on Twitter over the weekend.
On Sunday, Tesla’s CEO changed Twitter’s policy on account anonymity. While users usually receive a warning before a permanent suspension, Musk decided to permanently suspend an incognito account without warning.
Apparently those impersonating him were the first to go; however, even though Kathy Griffin was suspended, Valerie Bertinelli somehow managed to escape Musk’s wrath.
Elon Musk Suspends Kathy Griffin For Impersonating Her On Twitter… Valerie Bertinelli Still Has It
A blue check mark just means your identity has been verified. Scammers will have a harder time impersonating you. That no longer applies. Good luck out there!

On Sunday, the Golden Globe winner changed his name on Twitter to Elon Musk to mock his new $8-a-month blue check verification fee.
“A blue check mark means your identity has been verified. Scammers will have a harder time impersonating you. That no longer applies,” he said tweeted. “Good luck out there!”
He also retweeted an article about the midterm elections and added the hashtag #VoteBlueToProtectYourRights, all under Musk’s name.
Okay-dokey I’ve had fun and I think I’ve made my point. 😬 I’m not a ‘trending’ type of girl. Never, never want to. Have a great Sunday everyone! xo 🤍

On Sunday night, Bertinelli seemed quite amused and decided to change his name back. “Okay-dokey, I had fun and I think I made my point. 😬 I’m not a ‘trending’ type of girl. Never, never want to,” he wrote on Twitter. “Happy Sunday everyone! xo 🤍.”
Although his account was still active on Monday, it seems that not everyone managed to save their account.
Elon Musk Suspends Kathy Griffin For Impersonating Him
Actually, he was suspended for impersonating a comedian

On Sunday, Kathy Griffin also decided to have some fun at Musk’s expense, changing her name and profile photo to match his. Griffin, as Musk, tweeted, “After many passionate discussions with the women in my life. I’ve decided that voting blue for their choice is the right thing to do (They’re sexy women too, btw.) #VoteBlueUntukMelindiguniWita.”
Griffin quickly found himself facing permanent suspension from the platform. “Actually, he got suspended for impersonating a comedian,” Musk tweeted in response to the news, adding, “But if he really wants his account back, he can have it. For $8.”
I use my beloved mother’s account. PS My IG and Facebook were also hacked. Please remember. Today me, tomorrow you. Can any high profile online person please confirm this for me? @ACLU_SoCal @elijahdaniel @BoutrousTed @StormyDaniels @JeniferLewis @sarahkendzior https://t.co/JiON3SsY1N

However, Griffin will not back down from Elon Musk. Instead, he jumped on his mother’s account, tweeting, “I use my beloved mother’s account. PS My IG and Facebook were also hacked. Please remember. Today me, tomorrow you. Can any high profile online users please confirm this for me?” He tagged the ACLU and Stormy Daniels, among others.
Musk says he won’t ban accounts labeled ‘parody’
Going forward, any Twitter handle that engages in impersonation without clearly stating “parody” will be suspended indefinitely
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 6, 2022
On Sunday, Musk tweeted a new Twitter policy: “Going forward, any Twitter handle that engages in impersonation without clearly stating ‘parody’ will be suspended indefinitely.”
“Previously, we issued a warning before the suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning,” he wrote. “This will be clearly identified as a condition of signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will result in the temporary loss of the verified checkmark.”

However, it seems that may not be entirely the case. The co-host of the hit show H3H3, Ethan Klein, also had his Twitter account suspended after he impersonated Musk to test the new policy. The popular YouTuber tweeted a joke about Musk’s alleged friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and quickly found himself permanently suspended as well.
After his account was suspended, the show’s H3H3 account tweeted, “Comedy is dead on Twitter and Elon Musk is killing it.”
