Vandals take tractor for destructive joyride at Bay Area pumpkin patch, causing thousands in damage

A bunch of punk-kins.

A group of vandals broke into a California pumpkin patch this week and wreaked havoc, pushing out portable toilets and taking tractors for a destructive merry-go-round, according to the farm’s manager.

The gang caused thousands of dollars in damage during the mayhem at the Spina Farms Pumpkin Patch in Morgan Hill, a popular annual attraction for local families.

“They knocked the porta pot. They break multiple scarecrows; everything is custom made. They probably go through about a dozen pumpkins,” Daniel Estrada, operations manager for Spina Farms, told NBC Bay Area.

Estrada said the break-in happened around midnight on Wednesday. The farm’s security guard realized something was up after he heard laughter and the sound of a tractor running.

He was then confronted by at least four people – including one driving a tractor.

“The man driving the tractor just shot him. He took off, went through our marigolds, crashed through the fence and rode the cattle train out to Santa Teresa,” Estrada said.

Luckily the train got caught in a wire fence causing it to stop in the middle of the road.

The driver then dropped his phone in front of the security guard, who picked it up. He threatens her and demands that she return it to him.

He refused and told them he was calling the police.

“They all took off as soon as they heard the police coming,” he said.

Farm workers had to work through the night to ensure that none of the scheduled field trips had to be cancelled.

Spina Farms shared a photo of the cellphone’s lock screen on its Facebook page, asking the public for any clues as to who it belonged to.

The incident is being investigated by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. No arrests were made.
