Vanessa Hudgens has weighed in on fan claims that her ex-boyfriend, Austin Butler, still has an Elvis Presley accent.
The actor portrays the music icon in the biopic “Elvis,” which wraps filming in March 2021.
A fan’s joke about Butler’s accent prompted Hudgens to respond in the comments section of the post. Butler has since earned several award nominations for the role, including a Golden Globe win earlier this month. He recently revealed that a friend inspired him to audition for the part.

Hudgens recently shared her thoughts on her ex-boyfriend Butler who still hasn’t come out of his role as Presley in the Baz Luhrmann-directed film “Elvis.”
Filming on the film wraps up in March 2021, but many individuals have noted that the 31-year-old still speaks in the rock ‘n’ roll icon’s accent.

One Instagram user, in particular, made a comment, joking that Butler attended the “Lady Gaga school of Oscar campaign acting.” The statement references the pop icon’s methodical approach to acting for her Patrizia Gucci character in “House of Gucci,” which earned her an Oscar nod.
Hudgens appeared in the comments section, writing the words “Crying,” as if to side with fans’ opinions of Butler.
The couple dated for years but officially split in January 2020. Butler has since dated Kaia Gerber, while Hudgens has moved on with MLB athlete Cole Tucker.
‘I Don’t Think I Sound Like Him’

While many individuals feel that Butler has yet to lose his Presley accent, the actor shared that he thought that was not the case but chose to go with it.
“I don’t think I still sound like him, but I guess I must because I hear him a lot,” Butler told the press earlier this month, per US Weekly. “I had three years where that was my only focus. So, I definitely have pieces of him in my DNA, and I will always be associated.”
According to Irene Bartlett, who worked with the actor as her vocal coach, Butler had a lot of free time during the COVID lockdown, which gave her more time to get into the role.
He told Gold Coast ABC, per US Weekly, “Due to the COVID lockdown, he’s working on it all the time, and it’s hard to turn off something you’ve spent a lot of focus on [and] time above.”

All that hard work from Butler paid off as he received critical acclaim for playing Presley in the biopic.
The actor collected numerous award nominations following the film’s debut in June 2022. He recently took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama at the 2023 Golden Globes held earlier that month.
Butler remains in contention for the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and the British Academy Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
The two ceremonies will be held on February 26 and 19, with “Elvis” also tipped to sweep the awards in other categories.
Austin Butler Says Friend Inspired Him to Audition for ‘Elvis’

Following her recent success, Butler has opened up about being inspired to audition for the role by a friend.
“The month before I heard that Baz was doing the movie, I was going to see the Christmas lights with a friend, and there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio, and I was singing along, and my friend looked at me and went, ‘You have to play Elvis,’ ” he said in a round table discussion every US Weekly.
At the time, the former Nickelodeon star felt that casting her vote would be a “long shot.” However, in a different meeting with the friend, he again advised him to shoot his shot, and as they say, the rest is history.
Although Butler chose to remain anonymous about the friends’ names, fans believe she was referring to Hudgens. The “Princess Switch” star shared a similar story during her 2019 appearance on an episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan.”
