She made her acting debut with the Tamil film “Chandralekha” in 1995.

Controversy
- In 2018, he and his father Vijayakumar were embroiled in a legal dispute over family property. According to Vanitha, she has been living in her mother’s house since her mother’s death and her father asked her to vacate the house. His father also stopped him from shooting and urged him to leave the house. Vijaykumar filed a case against him at Maduravoyal local police station for not vacating the house he claimed to be his. Vanitha later claimed that she and her crew were beaten by the policemen and they threw them out of her house.
- In 2017, it was reported that his daughter, Jaynitha, was kidnapped by him. When Vanitha and her second husband, Rajan Anand, divorced, it was decided that their daughter, Jaynitha, would live with her father from Monday to Friday and with him on weekends. But, in the first week of April in 2017, Vanitha took her daughter with her but did not return her for a whole week. After that, the case was filed against him but he still did not return the child even after the court gave him a deadline. After an argument, the court awarded full custody of Jaynitha to her father.

- In 2010, Vanitha filed a case against her father, mother and brother for assaulting her when she tried to bring her children home. Reportedly, his children had gone to his parents’ house to celebrate Diwali. Her father was so drunk that he did not allow his children to return to their home and when he tried to do so his brother attacked her and her husband.
