Vanna White Addresses Pat Sajak’s Potential End On ‘Wheel Of Fortune’

The popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” first began airing as a daytime series on NBC, debuting in 1975.

Six years later, in 1981, “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak stepped in with Vanna White to replace former hosts Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford. Today, the two still host the game show as it airs on ABC.

Sajek and White have hosted the show together ever since, going on 39 years now, as millions of contestants have come to try and solve enough word puzzles to get to the bonus round and spin the wheel.

Unfortunately, as both Sajak and White get older, it looks like the end of their run is closer than many expected.

Vanna White recently opened up about her time on “Wheel of Fortune” with Pat Sajak, referring to themselves as a “team of sisters.”

“I think when Merv Griffin picked the two of us, 40 and 41 years ago, he saw something between us — a sibling-type relationship,” White told PEOPLE. “And I think that’s kind of what it is. He saw that we would get along, and we did. We’re like a team of brothers.”

However, when reflecting on the end of their “Wheel of Fortune” run, White admitted it was “sad.”

“I don’t want to think about that. I mean, we’re a team,” White said. “That’s sad. I don’t want to think about it.”

“It’s amazing. I can’t believe it’s been 40 years,” he said. “Honestly, I loved every minute of it.”

White concluded by saying, “Who still says they love their job after 40 years? I do! I really do. It’s a fun show. Everyone watches it and enjoys it and it changes people’s lives and it makes people happy. So it’s a good job.”

Last year, “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak sat down with Entertainment Tonight and admitted that the end is near.

“We are certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” Sajak said. “I want to go before people watch and look at me and say, ‘Ooh, what happened to him?'”

“I wouldn’t bet on seeing us in, like, 10 years, I would say,” Sajak continued, to which Vanna White agreed.

At this time, there is no word on when Pat Sajak or Vanna White will retire, or who will replace the iconic duo. Meanwhile, game show fans can tune into ABC every weeknight at 7:30 PM ET to watch contestants solve word puzzles and advance to bonus rounds to spin the wheel.
