In 2017, Varun Dagar started his career by participating in various theater productions. He has participated in various dance competitions in Delhi such as Stage Vibe and Manch. In 2021, she won the Dance World show held in Chennai.

In October 2021, she participated in the Sony TV reality show India’s Best Dancer; however, he was not selected. In an interview, Geeta Kapoor, who is also one of the judges in India’s Best Dancer”, a dance reality show on Sony TV with Sonali Bendre and Terence Lewis, talked about Varun Dagar’s participation and talked about why he was not selected in the reality show. He said that the reality show has criteria for pairing a contestant with a choreographer; however, due to Varun Dagar’s unique dance form, they could not find a choreographer for him.

Controversy
Attacked by Delhi Police
In April 2023, Varun Dagar was assaulted by the Delhi Police and some parking attendants after his performance at Connaught Place. The entertainer, on Tuesday, shared a video in which he was seen being led away by an unknown man to a group of men who were seen wearing police uniforms. Varun was dragged and seen beaten in the video. On Instagram, Varun Dagar shared a video clip of the incident with the caption,
When the police came to move me from my place in Block B, they were joined by the block’s parking manager. People were questioning the police when the fight started. In the middle of all this, I was packing my things when the parking attendant came up to me and grabbed me by my collar. He abused me and dragged me out.”
He explained that he had been dragged out of the scene and had been handled. She claims a police officer ‘pulled her hair’ and hit her with an elbow before dragging her into a police van. She claims she was abused throughout the journey. When he asked why he was beaten, the police did not give an explanation. Instead said that they will tell him the reason when they reach the police station. While sharing the post, Varun said he did not know the reason behind his ill treatment.

Varun Dagar shared a video shot by a woman; in the video, a policeman is about to arrest Varun and the girl stops him and asks the policeman to show a paper that state busking is illegal. The Delhi Police came and seized my belongings from my hands. I didn’t let them take my stuff because I wasn’t performing at the time. They treated me as if I had committed a crime. They are rude to me. I understand they won’t let me do busking, but it’s not illegal either. I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t do anything illegal on the street; I’m just performing. Now you tell me what to do.”
