Vegas teen accused of killing retired cop in hit-and-run also slapped with attempted murder charge in stabbing

The Las Vegas teenager accused of deliberately running into a retired California police chief is facing new charges of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing that happened months before the fatal hit-and-run.

Jesus Ayala, 18, who is awaiting trial for the murder of Andreas Probst, was arrested on January 17 for an “extremely violent” gang attack in which a man was stabbed multiple times in June.

“It recently came to our attention that he was allegedly involved in an attempted murder, a stabbing, so we charged him with the crime that resulted from that,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told KSNV.

The stabbing victim suffered multiple lacerations including a large one to the head before he sought treatment at University Medical Center (UMC) on June 27, 2023, according to FOX 5 Vegas, citing a police report.

The patient, who initially told police that an ambulance was taking him to the hospital, was taken to UMC by his roommate.

They were treated for acute traumatic pain, multiple stab wounds to the face and back, and hospital records obtained by the outlet read.

On the day of the attack, the victim said an unknown man approached him and accused him of stealing something before five others showed up and launched their attack, according to KSNV.

The “extremely violent” attack lasted about a minute, longer, and a witness said the victims were about to be killed by the suspects, described as all under the age of 18.

Police found a bloody knife near the scene, but were unable to provide a “good print match” linking Ayala as a suspect, the report states, but several witnesses have identified the teenager as one of the attackers.

The outlet added that a witness said Ayala was one of the “big homies,” while detectives found a video posted on Instagram depicting one of the suspects with “NC” tattooed on their face, the same one Ayala was sporting in his mugshot.

DNA match results have not been announced.

The teenager was identified by the stabbing victim during a photo lineup on September 19, 2023.

“We have accused him of doing some pretty serious things. I mean your open murder can’t get any more serious than that and now the charge of attempted murder,” Wolfson told News3LV.

Ayala was interviewed by detectives on January 16 and denied any involvement in the stabbing, but charges against the teenager were officially filed on January 19.

“Mr. Ayala has the right to have his day in court, he has the right to have a good lawyer, he has the right to cross-examine witnesses, he has the right to present devices on his own behalf,” Wolfson said. “But at the end of the day we have a jury system and the court jury will decide he is guilty or innocent.

Ayala has been charged with Attempted Murder and Battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily injury, according to jail records seen by The Post, along with the many charges he already has in Probst’s death.

He is currently in jail without bail for allegedly killing Probst, who was riding his bicycle on the morning of August 14, when the teenager and his passenger Jzamir Keys, 16, filmed themselves deliberately driving a stolen car into the cyclist.

Their court hearing is scheduled to begin in November, while Ayala’s new case has a preliminary hearing date set for February 28.

“We feel very confident in the strength of our case, we feel very confident that we will get justice for this victim,” Wolfson added. “All I care about is the evidence we present and getting justice for our victims is what matters to me.”
