Veterinarian performed surgery on Israeli French woman held hostage by Hamas: family

A Palestinian vet operated on a French Israeli hostage while he was being held by Hamas, his aunt said.

“She’s traumatized,” Vivian Hadar said after Mia Shem’s 21-year-old niece was released Thursday night, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“He’s thin, he’s weak,” Hadar said of Sem, noting, “A vet operated on his arm; he does physical therapy for himself.

“He knew he had to massage his own hands,” Hadar explained of his relatives, adding that Sem’s hands were still “very sore.”

While the young woman was being held, the Palestinian terrorist released a video of her being treated for a wound on her right arm as someone off-camera wrapped her elbow in a bandage.

Shem, who was abducted from the Tribe of Nova music festival near the Gaza Strip on October 7, said in the 60-second clip that he was injured and taken across the border, where he underwent three hours of surgery to treat undisclosed injuries.

Women interviewed by the pressMia Shem’s family appealed for her safe return after she was abducted by Hamas from the Tribe of Nova music festival on Oct. 7.

“They took care of me, gave me medicine, everything was fine,” Shem said in the video.

“I only ask them to take me home as soon as possible to my parents, to my siblings. Get me out of here as soon as possible. Please,” he said.

Shortly after the footage emerged, Shem’s family held a press conference in Tel Aviv to plead for their loved ones to return home safely.

“I see he is still alive. … I heard before the rumor that he was shot in the shoulder or in the leg so I could see that he was shot in his shoulder, I saw that he had undergone surgery, he looked very scared, he looked like he was in great pain, and I could see that he said what they told him,” his mother told reporters.

“I am asking world leaders that my daughter be returned to us in her current condition, along with other hostages,” the mother added, holding up a photo of her daughter.

“I am begging the world to return my baby to me. It is a crime against humanity. Together we have to stop this violence.”

Speaking to reporters after Shem’s release Thursday night, Hadar said that waiting for his nephew to be released was “like Russian roulette.”

“We kept wanting to know if he was on the list or not,” Hadar explained.

“Yesterday, we thought he was on the list, and they said ‘no,’ and it completely paralyzed me.”

The aunt said she didn’t ask Shem much about what he endured for almost 50 days in captivity “because when we started asking, we saw that it was difficult for him.

“We’re glad he’s with us,” Hadar said, but “it’s hard to see him in this situation.

“It was not an easy time,” he said. “It’s not easy what he went through, and we look forward to it.

“What the hostage family is going through is not normal,” he added. “This must not happen. All hostages must be returned.”

A temporary truce between Israel and Hamas ended Friday morning as the Jewish state blamed the terror group for violating the truce by firing rockets into Israeli territory before the deal expired.

In response, moments after the ceasefire ended, the Israeli military continued its offensive in Gaza, launching airstrikes on Palestinian territory for the first time since a ceasefire began on 24 November.
