HBO’s “The Idol” has once again come under fire following the release of its third episode on June 18.

Per The Independentthe show, which has received a lot of criticism even before its debut, has been slammed for a “sickening” line about the late sex offender Epstein in its latest episode.

The line was used during a discussion between Live Nation representative Andrew Finkelstein (Eli Roth) and Chaim (Hank Azaria), who plays the role of Depp’s character Jocelyn’s manager.

It read, “I’m a bloody lot of blood from a kid on Epstein Island.” Viewers found the line particularly offensive, as it seemed to trivialize Epstein’s child-trafficking that took place on his famous island.

One viewer described the line as “Absolutely sickening,” while another said it was “bland AF.” A third said it was “disgusting” that the writers thought it would “make a good joke,” while many others expressed their desire to stop watching the series.

It remains to be seen how viewers will view the rest of the show as HBO continues to release new episodes every week.

In the meantime, Depp, whose character is at the center of the show, has had to endure severe criticism. Her character has been criticized for being almost nude in many scenes, especially when it seems unnecessary.

Depp, however, offered an explanation for Jocelyn’s “stupidity,” revealing that filming the show was an important part of the character’s personality as “a born and bred entertainer.”

Depp said of Jocelyn, per Daily Mail“The way he dresses, for example, is that he’s trying to tell you something all the time… or express himself in some kind of way. I also think that the stupidity of the character occasionally reflects the stupidity that we can see emotionally in him.”

Some reviews also pointed to the overly explicit nature of the show, with some even describing the show as a “Pornhub homepage adventure” after its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.

It came after several crew members were interviewed Rolling stone described “The Idol’s” set as toxic. However, this belief was apparently not shared by the entire cast and crew as Depp called the show’s director Levinson “the best director I’ve ever worked with” for “so many reasons.”

He added, per Page Six“I’ve never felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input and opinion more valued.”

Amidst the criticism, a report claims that a decision has been taken on the show’s future. A source said, per Page Six, “This was never meant to be a long-running show, it was always… a limited series.”

Another source said the door is “still definitely open” for a second installment, although such a decision has yet to be set. An insider said, “It’s definitely not a decision [yet]. At this point, this is normal in our process… we’re only two episodes in.”

Shortly after the report swirled online, HBO clarified that they have yet to decide the future of the show.

“It was erroneously reported that the outcome of the second season of The Idol has been determined,” HBO tweeted via its official site. “No, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”
