Vikramaditya Singh was born on Tuesday, 17 October 1989 (age 33 years; in 2022) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. His zodiac sign is Libra. He completed his schooling at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. Vikramaditya enrolled himself at Hansraj College, a constituent college of Delhi University, in New Delhi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Hons). He continued his studies at the level of Master of Arts in History at the College of St. Stephen, New Delhi.

Vikramaditya Singh belonged to the royal Rajput family of the former state of Bushahr.

Parents & Siblings

Vikramaditya’s father, Virbhadra Singh, was a politician and member of the Indian National Congress, who served six terms as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. On 8 July 2021, at the age of 87, Virbhadra breathed his last at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla after suffering from multi-organ failure. His mother, Pratibha Singh, a politician and member of parliament from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, was appointed as the Chief of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee on 26 April 2022. Vikramaditya has an older sister, Aparajita Singh, who is married to Angad Singh, grandson of Amarinder Singh , who was the former Chief Minister of Punjab.

On 8 March 2019, Vikramaditya got married to Sudarshana Chundawat, an art expert, digital illustrator and photographer, at the Kanotagarh palace in Jaipur. In October 2018, the couple got engaged in Udaipur.

Sudarshana belongs to the Amet royal family in Rajasthan and is the daughter of Thakur Dheer Singh. However, they separated after a few months of marriage.

Career

In 2011, Vikramaditya joined politics and became a member of the Indian National Congress. In 2013, he was elected as the president of Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress. In the 2017 state assembly elections, Vikramaditya contested from Shimla Rural constituency and won the seat by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ravi Mehta by a margin of 13,860 votes. In 2022, he contested from the same constituency and won by defeating BJP candidate Dr Pramod Sharma by a margin of 4880 votes. On January 8, 2023, he was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the ministry of Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Controversy

FIR for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets

On 23 September 2015, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, his son, Vikramaditya Singh, his wife, Pratibha Singh, and daughter, Aprajita Singh, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, in which they were accused of amassing assets imbalanced over Rs 10 crores. The chargesheet was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the period 2009-2012 when Virbhadra served as Union Minister in the UPA government. He and his family members were accused of cheating and forgery charges as they invested unaccounted funds in LIC policies through agents and tried to evade income tax by claiming the illegal funds as agricultural income earned from the sale of apples. They were charged under sections 109 (conspiracy) and 465 (punishment for forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).

Accused of domestic violence

On 17 October 2022, Vikramaditya’s wife, Sudarshana Chundawat, filed a case in a Udaipur court against him, her mother-in-law, Pratibha Singh, sister-in-law Aparajita Singh, brother-in-law Angad Singh, and a woman from Chandigarh, Amreen, under section 12 of the Domestic Violence Act and accused them of domestic abuse and financial exploitation. Sudarshana, in her complaint, accused Vikramaditya of having an affair with Amreen, a 38-year-old resident of Chandigarh. She alleged that Vikramaditya installed a CCTV camera in her room to monitor her and threatened and pressured her to get a divorce. When she confronts him about his affair, Vikramaditya reveals that he wants to marry Amreen, but after his father, Virbhadra Singh, who is against his relationship with Amreen, threatens to disown him, he is forced to marry Sudarshana. In December 2022, it was reported that a non-bailable warrant had been issued against Vikramaditya and his mother, Pratibha Singh by a Udaipur court, but Vikramaditya denied the rumors and said,

No order passed by the court on the issuance of a non-bailable warrant. Instead, we have received the notice. We do not evade the law. There is no default on our part, so there is no question of issuing a warrant against us.”

The ceremony was held to empower Vikramaditya as the head of the family, which made him responsible for the duties previously performed by his father. According to sources, Vikramaditya was not in favor of the “Raj Tilak” ceremony as he believed such a title did not exist in Indian democracy, but after being urged by his elderly family members, he agreed to perform it.
