Viola Davis was snubbed at the Oscars, or so her fans believed. They took to Twitter to express the poor results of the awards ceremony.
Viola Davis Scorned for ‘King of Women’
The Academy Award nominations were announced this morning and Viola Davis wasn’t there. His movie King of Women who have won awards at other annual awards shows haven’t been nominated for an Oscar, but that’s okay.
But, Viola, the actress, she was also insulted. Many people were surprised and had great things to say about the film. They took to Twitter to lash out at the academy and anyone else who makes the choice of who and what is chosen to compete.
Twitter Wants More For Viola Davis
“In a category where the 93/94 winner was white, the Academy once again continues to ignore a very deserving performance by a woman of color in Best Actress,” said one shocked follower.
“So disappointing to see this year after year…” wrote one follower agreeing with the number of fans on social media.
“I keep saying it but Halle Berry being the only WOC to ever win for this category is the weirdest thing to me….in 90+ years….” the lack of people of color on screen is truly disappointing to many who believe that there are quality films featuring people of color who have no reason to be despised Until a film about the murder of Emmett Till that focuses on his mother’s struggle to avenge her son using social justice given to her at the time.
The Oscar Snub Hits People of Color Hard
As mentioned, other films featuring people of color have been downplayed and conversations on Twitter include them in the mix. “Viola Davis (King of Women) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till) should be nominated for Best Actress and no one can tell me anything different. #Oscars2023.”
“I’m heartbroken for Danielle. like he brought so much life to Till. hopefully, he has more good things! wrote one fan who was clearly upset by the slight but even more so for actress Danielle Deadwyler who played Mamie Till in the movie Till.
“No black women at all for Best Actress -No Viola -No Danielle Deadwyler No Best Direction for Ryan Cooler or Gina Prince-Bythewood either @ #Oscars2023.” Something tells us this isn’t going away anytime soon.
One fan posted, “They really won’t let another black woman win Best Actress, that’s crazy…”

Is Ana de Armas Blamed?
Many people were not only irritated by the slight but they were even more hostile to the “overhyped” actress Ana de Armas who was nominated in the best actress category for Blonde. The sneer flared up a little more because someone saw his face and name up there.
Some people go so far as to accuse the film of stealing the spot King of Women should enter. “I’m as disappointed as everyone else at some of the best actresses, but let’s all remember that the enemy is not Andrea Riseborough but BL*DE #OscarNoms.”
