Virginia dad accused of beating son’s youth soccer coach with metal water bottle

A Virginia father has been arrested after he allegedly punched his son’s youth soccer coach over the weekend — leaving the victim with a black eye and swollen face.

Blerand Hxoha, 45, was charged with malicious wounding after police say he used a metal water bottle to hit the coach in the face during a boys soccer game in Manassas Saturday, Fox5 reported.

Coach Vince Villanueva told a Washington, DC-area station that he doesn’t know why his father attacked him, but remembers the team lost before the loss that knocked him out.

“The father went to talk to the son and then when I went to get him and put him back in the game, I said ‘Are you okay?’ And he said, ‘No, he didn’t,’ and he said, ‘Coach can I talk to you?’ And then it all went downhill from there,” he said.

Villanueva had never met Hxoha or her son before. He was courting a coaching partner during a scrimmage with the Northern Virginia Soccer Club at George Hellwig Memorial Park when he was attacked, the station reported.

Several off-duty police officers who were at the game were able to move the child to a safe distance and calm the situation, he said.

Villanueva, who is the head coach of the varsity women’s soccer team at Potomac High School, said he has never experienced such aggression in his decades of coaching.

One of his eyes was still red, swollen and bruised and he had cuts on his nose and face when he spoke to Fox5 on camera Monday.

He said parents should let their children be children during sports and not take the competition too seriously while trusting their child’s coach.

“Allow them to do their job and make it a fun environment for them,” Villanueva said. “Kids have enough stress in life with everything in the world, but allow them to have that moment somewhere to escape.”

The coach said he only learned the name of his alleged attacker after the attack.

Hoxha is being held behind bars without bail.
