- In 2003, Vishwas lashed out at Sonia Gandhi after the Indian National Congress (INC) raised a question in parliament, asking whether Veer Savarkar had sought forgiveness from the British government to pardon him and grant him freedom. During an interview, he said,
Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress (I), was Italian and had little knowledge of India. To this day, I don’t know if he is an Indian citizen. He didn’t know about Savarkar’s sacrifice, that’s why he was against [the installation of the portrait]. Congress followed his lead blindly. She came to India after marrying Rajiv Gandhi. It is natural that he has no knowledge of Indian history.”
