Vivek Oberoi was born on 3 September 1976 (age 42 years; as in 2018) in Hyderabad, India. He was born Vivek Anand after the Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda. He shortened his name to Vivek when he joined the film, because he believed that making love and dancing on screen with that name would be an insult to a monk. He did his schooling from Hyderabad Public School, Hyderabad and proceeded to Mayo College, Ajmer, Rajasthan to complete his further education. Vivek was a great athlete during his school days. He used to participate in all kinds of sports like hockey, table tennis, cricket, and football. He was also part of his school’s hockey team and played at the state and national level.
After completing his education, Vivek moved to London to attend acting workshops. He is spotted by the Director of New York University who brings Vivek to New York. Vivek earned a Masters in acting from New York University.
Oberoi worked as a screenwriter before becoming an actor.

Career
Vivek made his Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s “Company”. The film earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut as well as Best Supporting Actress. He was paid ₹3 lakh for the film. Next, he starred in the action films, Road and Dum.
In 2002, Vivek appeared in Saathiya opposite Rani Mukerji. The film was a hit at the box office and his performance was praised by audiences and critics alike. He later starred in films like Masti, Yuva, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Mission Istanbul.
In 2013, he played the evil genius, “Kaal,” in the superhero film, “Krrish 3.” His performance in the film was highly appreciated. Vivek also appeared as a Judge in the first season of the reality TV show, India’s Best Dramebaaz.

In 2006, he received the Merah Putih Courage Award for adopting and rebuilding a village in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, which was badly destroyed by the 2004 tsunami. He and his family founded the ‘Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation’ to provide assistance to the poor. Vivek also runs an NPO called “Satu Yayasan” whose motive is to focus on things like running schools, providing free food, saving girls from child prostitution, healthcare, education and empowerment of girls.
In 2004, Oberoi founded ‘Karrm Infrastructure Pvt Ltd,’ a real estate company providing low budget housing solutions.
Controversy
- In 2003, Vivek held a press conference at his residence and accused Salman Khan of calling him ’41 times’ in one night and threatening to kill him because of Vivek’s close relationship with Aishwarya Rai.
- In 2008, Vivek went to a friend’s party, where he misbehaved with his friend’s girlfriend and allegedly kissed her. Next, he was slapped and insulted by the girl in front of all the audience.
- In May 2019, she received a lot of criticism on social media over her posting of a three-image collage featuring herself, Aishwarya Rai, her husband Abhishek, daughter Aaradhya, and Salman Khan on her Twitter handle. In his post, he has compared Aishwarya’s relationship with Salman as an ‘Opinion Poll,’ Aishwarya’s relationship with Vivek as an ‘Exit Poll’ and her family with Abhishek and Aaradhya as the ‘End Result.’ The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also served a similar notice to her.Later, he apologized and deleted the post from his Twitter handle.
