Wanindu Hasaranga is a Sri Lankan cricketer who has played in many tournaments for Sri Lanka and made many records with his bowling skills. He has played in many leagues in different countries and is considered one of the best fielders Sri Lanka has ever produced.

Pinnaduwage Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva aka Wanindu Hasaranga was born on Tuesday, 29 July 1997 (age 26 years; in 2023) in Galle, Sri Lanka. His zodiac sign is Leo. He attended Richmond College, Galle for schooling where he started playing cricket at the age of twelve. He joined cricket training for the Under-13 team and started as a fast bowler. He later became an all-rounder who loved fielding. His name rose in inter-school cricket in 2014 when he took 12 catches in one match. He later met coach Lamkal de Silva who was impressed by Hasaranga’s good arm speed and convinced him to become a leg spin bowler. He later played in many inter-school tournaments including the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament in 2017. He later pursued a career in cricket.

Domestically
He played his first domestic first-class match on 26 February 2016 for Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club (SLPACC) against Bloomfield; he went wicketless; however, he shone with the bat and scored 87 runs in the first innings and 6 runs in the second innings. He played his first domestic one-day match on 30 November 2015 for SLPACC against Tamil Union in the AIA Premier Limited Over Tournament. He later played for Colombo, Dambulla, and Galle in various domestic tournaments. He performed brilliantly with 10 wickets in first-class matches and 6 wickets for 24 runs in one-day matches and was selected for the Under-19 team.

He was selected for the Sri Lanka Under-19 team in 2015 and later played in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup where he took 3 wickets for 34 runs in the quarter final against England.
Test
He played his first test match on 26 December 2020 against South Africa in Centurian, South Africa; he scored 18 runs in the first innings and 59 runs in the second innings and took 4 wickets for 171 runs in the first innings.

He made his ODI debut on 2 July 2017 against Zimbabwe in Galle, Sri Lanka and took a hat-trick in that match. On 14 March 2021, he made his maiden ODI fifty by scoring 80 not out from 60 balls against West Indies and taking 1 wicket for 49 runs. In the 2023 World Cup Qualifier match against United Arab Emirates on 19 June 2023, he took his maiden 5-wicket haul by taking 6 wickets for 24 runs.

He made his T20I debut on 1 September 2019 against New Zealand in Pallekele, Sri Lanka and took 2 wickets for 21 runs. In a match against India on 29 July 2021, he took 4 wickets for 9 runs.

T20I World Cup
In the 2021 T20I World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates, he played in 8 matches and was the highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets; he also scored his maiden T20I half-century by scoring 71 runs off 47 balls against Ireland. In the 2022 T20I World Cup held in Australia, he played in 8 matches and took 15 wickets with the best figure of bowling 3 wickets against United Arab Emirates.

Indian Premier League (IPL)
He made his IPL debut on 20 September 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2021 season. RCB acquired him for Rs 10.75 crores in the auction for IPL 2022 season. In a match in IPL 2022 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 8 May 2022, he took his maiden 5-wicket haul in the IPL by taking 5 wickets for 18 runs.

He played for Sylhet Sixers in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017-18 and then for Khulna Tigers in BPL 2021. He represented Jaffna Stallions in Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 and was named Man of the Tournament for taking 17 wickets. He played for Jaffna Kings in the 2021 LPL season and Kandy Falcons in the 2022 LPL season.
