Warner Bros Blasted After Amber Heard Missing From New ‘Aquaman 2’ Trailer

Amber Heard is nowhere to be found in the latest “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” trailer and fans aren’t having it!

Heard’s future in the DC Universe has been shaky following her high-profile legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, with her connections in Hollywood dwindling.

However, despite DC Universe executives’ claims that Heard’s role as Queen Mera was not “removed” due to negative attention from the court case, the opposite seems to be the case with the recent trailer.

Amber Heard Is Completely Missing From ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Trailer 2

On Monday, Warner Bros. released a new trailer in anticipation of the hit superhero movie hitting theaters on December 22.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cSkHW-MPEThe 1 minute 30 second clip begins with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman talking to his son and promising a great future where they will explore their special abilities to the fullest. However, the fairy tale soon crumbles when the villain Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, comes for revenge.

“I will kill Aquaman and all he holds dear… Even if it means making a deal with the devil to do it,” Black Manta declares before they do, with the fate of Aquaman’s son hanging in the balance.

Besides Momoa and Abdul-Mateen getting enough screen time in the trailer, fans get to see a lot of Nicole Kidman, who returns as Atlanna, Arthur’s mother and former queen of Atlantis. However, in all of this, Heard’s Queen Mera is conveniently missing.

Heard’s complete absence is somewhat reminiscent of the first “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” released in September, where he made a cameo appearance near the end. While his lack of appearance in the trailer suggests the possibility that the 37-year-old won’t have much of an appearance in the actual film, director James Wan has denied that it was intentional.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wan said he always intended the focus of the second film to be on the relationship between Arthur and Orm rather than between Arthur and Mera, as was the case in the first installment.

“I have always communicated this to everyone from the very beginning. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first is a romantic action-adventure film, the second is a bromance action-adventure film. We leave it alone.”

Warner Bros. Fan Bash & DC Universe For Not Including Amber Heard

Despite Wan’s explanation, fans weren’t convinced and took to social media to slam Warner Bros. and DC for being misogynistic and unfair.

One angry fan wrote, “Warner bros released The Flash despite all the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller but cutting Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 is so mean and weird as s–t.”

Another similar statement read, “It makes no sense to center the movie on rescuing Arthur Jr. and his mother seems to have minimal involvement. Y’all let Ezra Miller have their movie, Rihanna has Johnny Depp in her fashion show, & Loki still has the Majors. But you guys draw the line at Amber Heard, oh okay.”

Another Internet user shared, “Cutting Mera/Amber Heard is crazy…I’m glad the DCEU has been washed away because this whole thing feels stale and kills any fun I have left. bury that with this movie.”

The same comment read, “If Aquaman turns out to be a success, they’ll say it’s because the promotion doesn’t have Amber and if it fails, they’ll blame her, it’s a lose-lose game.” This user joked, “Is Aquaman now a single father? LMFAO. Are they just pretending Amber Heard isn’t playing Mera?”

This fan declared, “Mera’s erasure is weird. Not only for the storyline but also because they are actively alienating so many people who will only watch it to support Amber Heard. Those who are also abusing it online won’t see it, why market it to them? #HanyaUntukMera #Aquaman.

Heard’s absence from the trailer comes a month after groundbreaking court documents from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial shed light on an allegedly “hostile” environment on the set of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

As we reported, the “Zombieland” actor reportedly told his therapist that his co-star Momoa was often drunk on set and dressed like Depp. He also allegedly urged her to be fired from the character of Mera.

“Jason said he wanted me fired,” the note said. “Jason was drunk — late on set. Dress up like Johnny. Has all the rings too.” The note also claimed that Director Wan often treated him badly because of high-profile battles. “He raised his voice @ me — ‘I can’t even post about Aquaman’ — made it seem like it was my fault — I said ‘I’m sorry.’ No one could take a selfie with me on set because of the blackout,” Heard said of Wan in her therapy notes.

The highlight of the shocking claims is that Heard was almost fired from the role, but her ex-boyfriend Elon Musk allegedly intervened, “threatening to burn the house down” if she didn’t return for the sequel.

While they seem to have fulfilled Musk’s request, only time will tell to what extent Heard’s role shapes the new sequel.
