Watch Utah firefighter rescue ungrateful pup Bob from doomed polar plunge: ‘Be nice!’

A heartwarming video captures the moment a Utah firefighter bravely jumped into a partially frozen pond to save a dog – who seemed less than eager to receive the help.

The black puppy was trapped after swimming in the cold waters of Steed Pond in Clearfield, a suburb of Salt Lake City, the North Davis Fire District said Sunday.

“Bob, well, he’ll help you!” The dog’s family calmly called out to their pet as they clutched the thinned ice that was too fine to support their weight, the video showed.

Firefighter Logan, swathed in head-to-toe protective gear and secured by a rope tied around his waist, slowly, but determinedly crawled along the ice toward the exposed canine.

Bob growls and howls at his funny-looking savior despite his family’s pleas to “be good.”

“Don’t worry friend he will save you!” they call

Undeterred, Logan swung his legs forward and dove into the freezing water — the area was hit by 32-degree weather and rain over the weekend.

Apparently more afraid of the bright yellow man than the cold water, Bob loosens his hold on the ice shelf but ends up swimming towards Logan, who immediately grabs the pup.

The pair struggled for a moment in the water as Bob tried to bite our savior’s face, but Logan proved to be the stronger of the two.

“Start pulling!” shouted the fireman to his crew.

From the safety of the beach, firefighters began to pull the rope and lift the couple out of the water.

As soon as Bob got his footing on solid ice, he sped away from Logan and toward his family — but not before letting go of the frozen water clinging to his coat.

“Bob the dog loves the water but the ice shelf kept him from getting out after his polar plunge,” the North Davis Fire District said on Facebook.

“Please be safe with your pets and children as the ice conditions are still not as safe as we would like them to be.”
