‘Wednesday’ Star Faces Criticism For Filming While Ill With COVID-19

The Blast observed that Ortega came under fire after he revealed that he wasn’t in the best shape during the filming of the beloved “Wednesday” dance scene. The scene went viral on social media platforms thanks to the actress’s unflinching facial expressions as she choreographed the dance with some unusual but delightful moves.

Detailing the events leading up to that moment during the interview, “The Little Rascals Save the Day” star revealed that she woke up in pain. Ortega said, “It was crazy because it was my first day with COVID, so it was horrible to film. Yeah, I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick, and when I get sick, it’s not that bad – I get sick body.”

The “Elena and the Secret of Avalor” actress went on to share that she was given medication to help her condition and was allowed to film the scene because she had not yet received a positive result for COVID-19.

Both Ortega and Netflix faced immediate backlash, with one person claiming that the move was a “dangerous, unethical, and very selfish thing, both on his part and on the part of the director and producer.”

The beloved scene is part of the series’ fourth episode and sees the cast dancing to The Champs’ 1981 punk hit, “Goo Goo Muck,” from their “Psychedelic Jungle” album.
