Amid uncertainty about Williams’ health status, the 58-year-old canceled her intended appearance at the Atlanta Women’s Expo, where she was scheduled to address attendees.

From the looks of it, the decision was taken at the 11th hour, though the contestants quickly replaced her with Grammy-winning R&B artist Monica.

Wendy reportedly missed out on a $25,000 payment for the two-day engagement, raising concerns that her decision to back out was not over a trivial issue.

“It is with regret that we have to inform you that Wendy Williams will not be appearing at The Ultimate Women’s Expo in Atlanta on May 20, 2023. With great consideration, we feel it is best for Wendy to participate in the Ultimate Women’s Expo later,” read a statement released by performance participants, per Page Six.

Williams has been working to relaunch her career after a long hiatus from the media following her exit from the “Wendy Williams” show.

Last month, her longtime representative and former publicist for her show, Zannotti, shared details about the TV personality’s comeback, revealing that it will be something other than a reality TV show.

“After a long break, Wendy felt some of the best days of her life were in the media,” Zanotti said. “He’s been in media since his early 20s and wants to get back to what he loves.”

Zannoti revealed that Williams is currently filming but remains tight-lipped about the name and other specs.

He added, “Getting back to what she loves is important. Yes, Wendy is filming…Yes, she is gearing up for something, and the details can’t be revealed yet.”

Meanwhile, drastic changes have taken place since Williams’ reality show ended and was replaced by Sherri Shepherd’s “Sherri.” Earlier that month, it was reported that Shepherd parted ways with Williams’ top producers, David Perler and Suzanne Bass, for the next installment of her eponymous daytime talk show.

The duo was allegedly let go because Shepherd wanted “fresh energy” for Season 2 to help portray the show in its light. A representative for Debmar-Mercury, the showrunner for both the Williams and Shepherd shows, issued a statement about the situation.

It reads, per Page Six“[Perler and Bass] has been integral to Debmar-Mercury’s success in daytime syndication over the years and has helped launch ‘Sherri’… Debmar Mercury wishes them the best in the future and looks forward to working with them.”
