Georgia lawmakers reveal whistleblowers rushed to testify against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis as lawmakers launch their probe into allegations of misconduct against the embattled prosecutor.
Georgia Republican state Sen. Bill Cowsert began a meeting of the state Senate’s Special Committee on Investigations on Friday by revealing that some employees from the DA’s office are eager to testify against their boss, who is suing former President Donald Trump for election meddling.
The Peach State lawmaker, however, insisted the investigation was not politically motivated.
“This is not a political witch hunt; this is a search for the truth,” Cowsert said during the meeting, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Cowsert said that whistleblowers allege Willis has misused state and federal funds, echoing sweeping allegations in court papers filed by Trump co-defendant Michael Roman in January.
Roman alleged that Willis had engaged in an “inappropriate” relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom he hired to handle the Trump case and who was paid $654,000 in 2022.

He claims Wade used some of his earnings to splurge on lavish gifts and vacations with his boss, and that the conflict of interest should have disqualified Willis, Wade and the district attorney’s office from prosecuting the former president’s election meddling case.
Willis recently admitted to having a “personal relationship” with Wade, but insists there is no reason to toss Trump’s case because he insists the pair were not romantically involved until 2022 — long after he hired her as attorney general in 2021.
In Friday’s filing, however, Roman’s attorneys claim Wade’s former law partner Terrence Bradley will prove Willis lied and that the pair’s romance began before he hired her in 2021.
Willis has called Roman’s claims “obscene” and said they are “getting the media attention they were designed to get.”
