White House apologizes to Asa Hutchinson after DNC brutally mocks failed presidential bid

The White House apologized to former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday after the Democratic National Committee brutally dismissed his failed presidential campaign.

Hutchinson’s decision to drop out of the race — after getting just 191 votes Monday from Iowa’s Republican caucus participants — was met with a sneer from DNC press secretary Sarafina Chitika, who said Tuesday, “This news is shocking to those of us who could have sworn he had already dropped out.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at her regular briefing Wednesday that White House chief of staff Jeff Zients called Hutchinson, whose candidacy centered on criticizing GOP frontrunner and former President Donald Trump, to apologize on Biden’s behalf.

“This is something we definitely want to overcome. President Biden has a lot of respect for Governor Hutchinson and admires the race he ran in,” said Jean-Pierre.

“The President recognizes him as a man of principle who cares about our country and has a solid record of public service,” he added.

“This morning, the chief of staff here, Jeff Zients, called the governor to convey this and apologize for the statement that does not — that does not — represent the views of the president.”

Zients “called the governor to apologize on behalf of the president and [the statement] does not reflect his views,” emphasized Jean-Pierre.

Trump, who handily won the Iowa Republican contest on Monday, routinely derided Hutchinson as irrelevant by mistakenly referring to her by the female first name “Ada.”
