White House insists it didn’t disinvite Adams over FBI fundraiser raid

WASHINGTON – The Biden administration came out Friday to deny whispers that it did not invite Mayor Eric Adams from a summit on the immigration crisis after learning about Thursday morning’s FBI raid on one of his campaign fundraisers.

Adams has had an increasingly frosty relationship with President Biden over the record-breaking impact of illegal immigration on city services — but the president’s team claims it is neither belittling Hizzoner nor trying to remove the optical nightmare by pulling him from the guest list.

“These rumors are false,” a White House official told The Post on Friday. “Mayor Adams canceled his participation in the meeting yesterday.”

“The answer is no,” added a City Hall spokesperson when asked if any DC Dems have advised the mayor to make himself scarce in the nation’s capital.

Adams, who once called himself the “Biden of Brooklyn” before clashing with the 80-year-old president over border damage, posted a video of himself boarding a plane to DC on Thursday morning before he suddenly returned to New York.

The FBI timed its raid on 25-year-old Brianna Suggs’ Brooklyn home to coincide with Adams’ trip to Washington, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The raid sought evidence of Adams’ aides colluding with the Turkish government and Brooklyn construction company KSK Construction Group to funnel foreign money into the mayor’s 2021 campaign coffers through straw donors.

It is unclear why the Ankara government would seek to boost Adams’ City Hall candidacy.

Suggs, 25, is one of Adams’ top fundraisers.

Suggs’ firm raised more than $150,000 from the mayor’s campaign.

The White House scheduled the meeting after Adams and four other Democratic mayors of other big cities signed an Oct. 28 letter. demanded $5 billion to deal with the influx of migrants amid record-breaking US-Mexico border crossings.

Biden asked Congress last month to provide a much smaller amount, $1.4 billion, for state and local governments.

“In order to address this crisis without further delay, we request an immediate meeting with you to discuss directly how we can work with your administration to prevent large numbers of additional asylum seekers from being brought into our city without coordination, support or resources. ,” the mayor wrote.

White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and senior adviser Tom Perez met with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston without Adams. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner also signed the letter to Biden, but were not present.

Biden himself did not meet with the mayor, despite their request.

The president also gave Governor Kathy Hochul the cold shoulder when she visited the West Wing on August 30, after criticizing her handling of the border crisis.
