White House rips Tucker Carlson for ‘ridiculous’ claim about Biden interference ahead of Putin interview

WASHINGTON – White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed Tucker Carlson’s “absurd” claims of interference from the Biden administration ahead of his expected interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Carlson confirmed Tuesday evening that he would interview Putin in Moscow – arguing in a show broadcast on X that “the American people have a right to know” about the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.

“Nearly three years ago, the Biden administration illegally snooped on our text messages and then leaked their contents to their servers at the news media,” the former Fox News host claimed in his preview video.

“They did this to stop the Putin interview we were planning. Last month, we’re pretty sure they did the same thing again. But this time, we came to Moscow anyway.”

Asked about Carlson’s allegations during his regular briefing on Tuesday, Jean-Pierre initially said he was “absolutely not” commenting on the interview or Carlson’s claims.

However, a few moments later, Jean-Pierre changed course and said, “I actually want to get back to your question.”

“It’s an absurd premise and an absurd statement made about this administration,” he added. “So I just want to be very clear – it’s just bullshit.”

Carlson, a frequent critic of US-backed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amid Putin’s two-year invasion, did not specify his claims or provide evidence to support them during his brief video announcing the Putin interview.

Carlson claimed in June 2021 that a whistleblower told him the National Security Agency was “monitoring our electronic communications and planning to leak them in an attempt to deflect attention.”

The NSA denies the allegations.

Carlson’s controversial text messages have been reported by news outlets, including as part of a defamation case against Fox News, regarding the protesters and Carlson’s feelings after the 2020 election against outgoing President Donald Trump.
