He became the first American man to qualify for the high and long jump at the 2020 Summer Olympics since Jim Thorpe in 1912. Juvaughn Harrison was born in Huntsville, Alabama, on April 30, 1999, to Jamaican parents, Georgia Harrison and Dennis Blake. They also have a son named Ky-Mani Harrison. Interestingly, his parents are famous sports professionals who share a passion for track and field activities. Juvaughn’s interest in athletics is not surprising given his athletic background. Both parents had an interest in his athletic skills, pushing him to become a high-level athlete.
Georgia Harrison Juvaughn’s mother, Georgia, is an accomplished athlete in her own right. He had an outstanding track record, having competed for Alabama A&M University from 1993 to 1996. In his prime, he was one of the best track and field athletes in the country. Throughout his career, he won gold medals in various track events, including the 400m hurdles and the 400m intermediate hurdles.
His obvious athletic prowess has earned him several awards, including induction into the AAMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. In addition to his athletic success, he graduated from AAMU with a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees. He currently works as a Business and Financial Analyst at AAMU. Despite his modest internet presence, his support for Juvaughn’s professional success is palpable. Juvaughn said that his mother’s influence made him the athlete he is today.

Dennis Blake (born September 6, 1970), Juvaughn’s father, is a former sprinter with an incredible athletic record filled with accolades and accomplishments. Dennis, an Olympian and nine-time All-American, was named the SIAC Most Valuable Player and awarded the Abbott Award. Likewise, he won the silver medal with three other players in the 1995 Pan American Games in Argentina.
Additionally, the Alabama A&M University alumnus received numerous recognitions and accolades throughout his academic career. His many athletic achievements earned him induction into the AAMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. After his retirement, he chose a new professional path outside of athletics.
