Will Shipley is a soccer player on the rise. He was born on August 29, 2002, in North Carolina, United States. James, Shipley’s older brother, was also an athlete. Will was born in Weddington and attended NC State University before enrolling at Clemson University in South Carolina. After redshirting for years, his parents, both NC State alumni, switched sides. Although he has converted many relatives to Tigers supporters, he thinks others remain ardent Wolfpack supporters.
Will Shipley started playing at a young age and honed his skills at Weddington High School in North Carolina. Despite missing his senior year, he finished his high school career with 80 touchdowns, 84 receptions, and 4173 rushing yards. Shipley had 11 touchdowns and 16 catches for 739 yards in his debut season with the Clemson Tigers.
His numbers improved as he finished his sophomore season with 13 touchdowns and 38 catches for over 1100 yards. He was selected first-team All-ACC as an all-around player for his efforts in the 2022 season. Likewise, he was on the short list for several collegiate honors, including the Paul Hornung Award, for which he was a finalist.

Will Shipley, Clemson Tigers running back, is the son of James and Tammy Shipley. His father was born and raised in North Carolina and has a master’s degree in Sports Management from NC State University. He previously attended Catawba College. James Sr. is the football coach for his hometown football team, the Weddington Titans, and watching him teach young boys for Pop Warner has inspired both of his sons. Will started playing football at the age of four, with his older brother, James Jr.
Their mother, Tammy, an NC State graduate, on the other hand, is a touch tough about academics and education that is valued above all else. So he always made sure the boys finished their homework before going out to play. Despite this, Tammy is satisfied with her children’s athletic abilities and loves to see them compete and play sports together.
Tammy was overjoyed when Will revealed an interest in becoming a professional athlete while still in high school. He had watched his development as a player for so many years that he was convinced he could do better in athletics than in school. Nevertheless, he chose to continue his education at Clemson University, where he pursued a business degree while still playing college football for the Tigers. His parents fully support their son and are satisfied with what he has achieved so far. Their biggest wish is for Will to win a national title with Clemson and then play in the NFL after college.

Will Shipley’s older brother, James Jr., is a Penn Quaker lacrosse player. He attended Weddington High School and participated on both the soccer and lacrosse teams. James is also the captain of his high school lacrosse team, which won three state titles (in 2017, 2018 and 2019). His soccer prowess has earned him numerous honors, including a two-time soccer state title (2016 and 2018) and Charlotte Soccer Player of the Year.
He came to Philadelphia after finishing high school to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned All-Ivy and Second Team All-Ivy honors while playing for the Pennsylvania Athletics.
