Lawrence Dobbins and Mya Grounds gave birth to JK Dobbins on December 17, 1998. Despite being high school sweethearts, they never married. Furthermore, Dobbins’ mother was about 18 years old when he was born. JK Dobbins is a National Football League (NFL) player who currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens. He played college football at Ohio State before being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Ravens.
Meet Mya Grounds’ Mother JK Dobbins
Dobbins inherited his mother’s strong work ethic. Mya Grounds, although a high school athlete who participated in volleyball and basketball, was unable to participate in varsity athletics due to parental responsibilities. Despite this, he completed his education by enrolling in courses at the University of Houston and graduating with a degree in finance. She now combines her profession as an IRS accountant with the responsibility of raising her younger son, Kance, and other children.
Lawrence Dobbins was a standout player at La Grange High School, where JK thrived. On the track and field squad, he was also a great sprinter. Lawrence’s speed led him to Lincoln University, a Division III HBCU in Philadelphia, where he was a member of the 4100-meter relay team that came within a shot of winning the national title in 1999. He returned to Texas, however, and enrolled at the Blinn Institution , a small institution with a football team.
Although originally on the football squad, he was unable to play and eventually resigned. Lawrence had a hard time when football didn’t work out for him. He died of a stroke while in Bartlett State Prison on February 22, 2014, when JK was just 15 years old. Lawrence was convicted of theft of property and sentenced to two years in prison in 2012.
Taking His Father’s Inheritance
Despite the difficulties, JK maintains a close relationship with his father, who has voiced his desire that his son not follow in his footsteps. JK and his father enjoyed a close relationship until his father’s unexpected death. JK often stayed with her father and grandparents, CL and Rita, during this period while her mother, Mya, worked or went to school. Dealing with the loss of his father was very difficult, but Dobbins was determined not to let this grief derail his aspirations.
Football became a source of pleasure for him and a way to cope with his loss. He became a better player than his father and enjoyed football nights as much as his father did during his playing days. The death of Dobbins’ father at an early age pushed him to grow faster than most of his classmates, and every time he brought the football, he took a little bit of his father’s legacy with him.
