Ben has watched his father, Matt Gregg, play basketball and teach the game to players since he was a child. He also served as the team’s water boy during matches. So it is reasonable to assume that his father inspired him to love the game and pursue it as a profession. Ben once competed in a basketball tournament at Clackamas High School in Portland. In September, at age 18, he verbally committed to Gonzaga, expecting to attend the prestigious Spokane college the following year.
Nevertheless, he was encouraged to join the Zags for the 2021 season by the team’s assistant coaches. To graduate from high school, he had to complete a full semester in just six weeks. He stepped up his training to be college ready while still studying, which accelerated the process and helped him be the best he could be. As a result, at the end of December, he was in the main team of the national team. During his freshman season, he appeared in 18 games, played 55 minutes and scored 17 points to help the team beat San Diego. He also played 108 minutes in 17 games during his freshman season, including a season-high 12 against Alcorn.
