Akan Zalatoris feels he would not have become a professional golfer, let alone a champion, without the support of his parents. His father introduced him to golf, and his mother instilled in him a competitive drive to succeed. Will Zalatoris is a quiet man who doesn’t talk much and keeps it low on social media. On the course, however, he let it rip, displaying his determination with victory. Furthermore, he has said that he inherited this mindset from his parents. William Patrick Zalatoris is a 27-year-old professional golfer from San Francisco, California. He participates on the PGA Tour as well as other major tours.
Zalatoris grew up in Dallas and attended Trinity Christian Academy, where he won the US Junior Amateur Championship. He continued his studies at Wake Forest University. Will’s abilities caught his eye, and he was named ACC Player of the Year in 2017. He rose through the ranks, earning honors such as GCCA First Team All-American, Nicklaus Award finalist and Hogan Award semifinalist.
Will also compete in every event available and represent the United States in the Walker Cup among notable players such as Collin Morikawa. Zalatoris is now performing at his peak. He has one PGA Tour and one Korn Ferry Tour victory.
Will Zalatoris’ Parents: Richard and Catherine Zalatoris
Parents of professional golfers choose to keep their details private. We do, however, have some anecdotes about them. Will’s father, Richard Zalatoris, worked in retail for over 35 years and was a pilot like his grandparents and uncles. In addition, he enjoys golf and teaches it to his son. Richard has played at Augusta Nationals and California Golf Club. He took Will to practice when he was just seven years old and taught him the basics of golf.
Unlike other coaching fathers, he never forced Will to adopt a certain style of play. Instead, he didn’t attend his son’s golf lessons and instead let him grow up on his own. “I never felt the overbearing presence that a lot of kids probably do,” Will told me. Catherine, Will’s mother, was an athlete in her day, just like her son. He ran the 400 and 800 meter sprints at Oregon. As a result, he acquired a competitive attitude, which he passed on to his son. He also took his son to the gym as a child so he could compete with other youngsters. Although he doesn’t play golf, he is a resident of Bend, Oregon, a Pacific Northwest golf hotspot. “She always told me: don’t force anything early,” Will recalled his mother.
