Moderator Whoopi Goldberg had quite the reaction when she learned that Joy Behar was “happy” to be fired from “The View” in 2013!
In a recent conversation at the Hot Topic table about workplace friendships, Joy brought up a 2022 interview from TIME magazine, when she admitted that she was happy to leave the award-winning talk show.

In 2013, Joy Behar was fired from “The View” after two of her own shows were canceled. He told TIME magazine that one of the secrets to his success is not taking anything personally.
“I’m happy to be fired,” Joy told the magazine. “I was basically sick of the show at that point for some reason, I can’t remember why.” When asked if she would miss her seat at the table, Joy replied, “Not really. You know what they say. The show must begin.”

Joy finally returned to the show in 2015 and plans to stay until at least 2025 after renewing her contract last year. During a recent conversation at the Hot Topic table, via Entertainment Weekly, Joy said, “I’ve always had friends where I work, and if I didn’t have friends at work, I wouldn’t have kept the job.”
“So, when I got fired last time from this show, people said to me, ‘Are you okay with that?’ and my answer, I’m happy because all my friends are gone,” he continued. “So, there is no reason to stay any longer. I mean it.”

Apparently, Whoopi Goldberg, who was a regular on “The View” at the time, didn’t appreciate the comment. He asked, “Really? Are all your friends gone?” as members of the live studio audience gasped in surprise.
“The Stand” actor then pretended to cry, complete with quivering lips. “It’s okay,” he joked. “I’m stylish.”

“You just came, and my backstage friends are gone. And I don’t like working when I don’t have friends,” added Joy defending herself. Whoopi then added that the two had been “friends for a long time” and that she was just “teasing” Joy.

“Joe Biden and I are the same age. Are you going to say I can’t do my job for the next four years? Of course, I can,” said Joy, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “And the haters can go stick their heads in something because I’m not getting out of this chair.”

Looks like Joy doesn’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. In an interview with PEOPLE, Joy talked about what it’s like to be the longest serving co-host on the show, which started in 1997.
“I just signed a contract so I will be here for a while,” he said. “I have no plans to retire.”

“It’s really, you know, something that’s an important show in a lot of ways,” he continued. “Sometimes I can’t believe it because I’ve been here since the beginning, but we’re the most watched show in daytime. Most viewed!”

Whoopi Goldberg Faces More Controversy Over Holocaust Comments

Last year, Whoopi Goldberg and her co-host discussed the Tennessee school board’s ban on the graphic novel “Maus” by Art Spiegelman, which details the events and effects of the Holocaust.
Spiegelman used animated rats to depict carnage and the school board justified the ban citing “unnecessary use of profanity and nudity.” Goldberg said that the Holocaust was not about “man’s inhumanity to man.” Instead, he called it “white people doing it to white people.”

“If you’re going to do this, let’s be honest about it because the Holocaust was not about race,” he added. “No, it’s not about racing! It is about man’s cruelty to man. That’s what it’s about.”
Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended for two weeks following an online backlash. Despite many calling for her to be fired, Whoopi clarified that she’s not going anywhere and said the talk show will continue to have “difficult conversations”.
