Reports have revealed why Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness split after nearly three decades together. The couple, who met on the set of the miniseries in 1995, recently announced the end of their marriage through a joint statement.
Now, it is alleged that the COVID outbreak is straining their relationship, which was made worse by the recent Hollywood writers’ strike.
Before splitting, they celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in April. Jackman took to Instagram to shower his now-estranged wife with compliments during the special occasion.

According to Daily Mail, Jackman and Furness had separated long before their latest announcement of the end of their marriage.
The news outlet reported that the COVID outbreak “really put a strain on their relationship,” leaving it “broken” when the restrictions were lifted.
And while the two initially tried to give each other a chance to work out their marital problems, the recent Hollywood writers’ strike (WGA) became another setback. In the end, they choose the next “best option”, which is for them to remain friends.
A source stated, “They’ve been trying and can’t get it back…..Hugh finds things don’t have the same magic they used to. Deb has the same concerns and thoughts and separating is the best option.”

It came after the two released a joint statement informing the public that they were ending their marriage of nearly three decades, each People magazine.
“We have been blessed to share nearly 3 decades together as husband and wife in a beautiful and loving marriage,” the separated couple said in a statement they shared on Friday.
The message also conveyed the couple’s sentiments about themselves, saying that their “journey is now shifting” towards focusing on “individual growth.”

They later revealed that their children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, continue to be their “top priority”. It seems to signify their commitment to remain active and involved in their children’s lives despite their separation.
They added, “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives. This is the only statement we will make.”
How Hugh Jackman Met Deborra-Lee Furness

Back in 2017, Jackman recalled his first meeting with Furness in 1995. The two reportedly met on the set of the crime drama miniseries “Correlli.”
“Deb, she’s a big star…I was picked up, and Deb was in the front seat of the car. I will never forget,” Hugh told Many people in an interview at the time.
He added, “She took off her seat belt and she turned and held out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl.'”
After their first meeting, the actors formed a bond that bound them to each other even though Furness had more experience in the industry than he did. A year later, they both walked down the aisle together.
They Just Celebrated Their 27th Wedding Anniversary
Five months ago, the estranged couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. At the time, the “Deadpool 3” star took to Instagram to pay tribute to the mother of his two children.
“I love you Deb…. I love you so much. Together we create a beautiful family. And life,” read the adorable post.
“Your laughter, your enthusiasm, your generosity, your humor, your warmth, your courage and your loyalty are incredible gifts to me,” she added in the caption. “I love you with all my heart.”
She complimented the post with a photo of the two beaming happily at the camera while Furness lovingly leaned on her shoulder. In the background, illuminated tall buildings provide a beautiful setting, although the location in the photo remains undisclosed.
So far, Jackman has not yet removed the photo from his Instagram page and also has several other photos on his page featuring his now estranged wife, Furness.
