Quantavious Grier, better known as Unfoonk, Young Thug’s older brother, was jailed on May 4, 2023, after pleading guilty to a high-profile RICO case. He has been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person employed or associated with a violent street gang.
According to Atlanta Police, Grier was arrested at a traffic stop at 4pm when the smell of smoked marijuana emanated from the car. A firearm was found when the police searched the car. Grier’s condition worsened when tint was found on the vehicle’s windshield and he failed to wear a seat belt while driving. Grier’s bail was denied when he was brought to court, but he is scheduled to appear in court again, but no exact date has been set so far. The arrest may affect the plea deal he accepted in December last year.
Unfoonk pleaded guilty to violating the RICO Act in December 2022
Unfoonk pleaded guilty to one count of violating the RICO Act and one count of theft by receiving stolen goods. According to the plea agreement, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 10 years on probation. He is not authorized to contact Young Thug or the other defendants until the case is settled, according to the terms of his probation. Unfoonk was also sentenced to perform 750 hours of community service and obey a curfew from 10pm to 6am He was also banned from possessing a gun.
Unfoonk also revealed in an Instagram Live session that the deal places certain restrictions on the terms he can use in his songs. While accepting her plea agreement, she was accused of flirting with her brother, but she disputed the allegations on her Instagram Story, writing:
“Damn people think I’m lying about my own brother.” I don’t fenna serve all that, peace and blessings.”
According to court filings, Unfoonk is required to testify if parties involved in the RICO case contact him.
Young Thug was arrested on RICO charges in 2022
In May 2022, Young Thug was arrested along with Gunna and charged with racketeering and gang activity. The charges include violations of the RICO Act and criminal involvement in violent street gang activity. Prosecutors say Young Thug is the leader of a street gang called Young Slime Life (YSL). Thugs aren’t the only ones being held; from January 24, 2013 and May 8, 2022, 27 people were allegedly involved in prohibited acts.
