Wife accused of poisoning husband’s soup at urging of scammer posing as soap opera star Thorsten Kaye: ‘I’m a wonderful cook’

A Massachusetts mother allegedly poisoned her husband’s soup at the urging of an online user who claimed to be soap opera star Thorsten Kaye in a nefarious catfishing hoax.

Roxanne Doucette was charged with attempted murder after she was turned in by her own daughter who found a message from “Kaye” instructing the 64-year-old to leave her husband so they could be together, WCVB reported.

Her daughter, Nicole Heath, went through her mother and the scammer’s message after the person convinced her to send $8,000.

But the mother pleaded not guilty when questioned by reporters.

“What they say is wrong. Because I’m a great cook. My son goes to culinary school. I learned from the best — my mom,” Doucette told a local station. “And I’m not trying to poison my husband.”

Her 73-year-old husband, Paul Doucette, spent days in the hospital after eating the tainted soup, investigators believe.

As Roxanne and the couple’s daughter sat by his hospital bed, Roxanne was on her mother’s phone to take screenshots of her messages with the so-called “The Bold and the Beautiful” actress for a police investigation into financial fraud.

What he found was far more disturbing.

“You have to get rid of your husband dear. I need you so much,” the person claiming to be Kaye wrote to Roxanne in a Dec. 1 message, according to police documents obtained by WCVB.

Roxanne replied that she needed to think and then, at 2:43 p.m., she sent a text message: “Making amazing soup. special ingredients. He’ll be hungry when he gets back. Enough for him.”

Then at 4:26 p.m., she sent a message: “Hubby is not feeling well again. Maybe I can collect life insurance,” according to the document.

“Honey, when?”, “Kaye” replied to which Roxanne said she didn’t know.

Less than an hour later that same day, at 5:11 p.m., Roxanne dialed 911 to report that her husband was unresponsive.

He was rushed to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, where his daughter remained by his side.

When he regained consciousness, Heath asked his father what he remembered before he fell ill.

“Paul said that Roxanne made him soup, but it wasn’t very good. He stated that it tasted bitter,” according to a police report obtained by the station.

Heath then called police on Dec. 3 and took his mother to the police station to speak with investigators, the station reported.

The mother admitted texting who she believed to be the soap star but said she did not hurt her husband.

“[‘Thorsten’ was] saying that they love me and they want me to leave my husband, but I have no intention of leaving my husband. I love my husband very much,” she later told WCVB.

Things turned sour at the precinct when police tried to take his phone and iPad as part of their investigation. When officers tried to arrest him for interfering with the investigation, he allegedly kicked a police officer in the groin, WCVB reported.

He was charged with intimidating a witness, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer in addition to attempted murder. She was later charged with violating a protective order after she sent a letter to her husband.

Roxanne is due back in court on Thursday.

A toxicology report run on Paul by the hospital was negative for opioids, cocaine and alcohol – but those were the only things he was tested for, according to investigators.
