William Gay, the Commander’s assistant defensive coach, does not have a wife but was once engaged to an Olympian. Gay got engaged to two-time Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings in 2018. The two athletes also have a son, William Rydell Gay, Jr., whom they affectionately call Liam. Their son was born in 2019, however, the couple broke up, and their engagement did not lead to marriage.
Gay served ten seasons in the NFL as a cornerback with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired in 2018 after training camp with the New York Giants. Gay’s coaching career began a year later. He worked as an intern for Mike Tomlin for the 2019 season and eventually accepted a position at Missouri State, where he will coach defensive backs in 2020. He was awarded a coaching fellowship by the Cowboys in 2023, and he announced in January that he would join the Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisian as an analyst. But now, William will return to the NFL.
William Gay Wife: Is the Commander’s New DB Coach Married?
William Gay has no wife but was once engaged to Natasha Hastings. William, a former Steelers linebacker, proposed to the Olympian in 2018, but the couple never married. She previously uploaded the engagement post on her Instagram account but later deleted it. Hastings, William’s previous fiancé, is a 400-meter track and field sprinter. He began his career at an early age, competing in the USATF Junior Olympics.
Who is Natasha Hastings?
Hastings, an alumnus of the University of South Carolina, became known as the “400M Diva.” During his career at the University of South Carolina, Hastings won the NCAA indoor and outdoor 400-meter championships in 2007. Hastings’ time of 50.15 was the second fastest at the collegiate level. He also won the Southeastern Conference title that year. Hastings joined the US Olympic Track & Field Team and competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
She earned an Olympic gold medal in the Women’s 4x400m relay team event. Natasha placed fourth in the 2013 World Championships while representing her country. In 2015, Hastings earned a silver medal in the 4×400 meter relay. In 2016, he won another gold medal in the same category. Hastings, a New York native, earned 13 gold medals during his illustrious career. Natasha announced her retirement from the field in 2022 and stated her intention to work as a sports psychologist.
Natasha told The Players Tribune, “I want to be a black woman working as a psychologist in a field that is historically male-dominated and has too few therapists who are women of color.” Natasha earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health from The Chicago School in 2023 and currently works as an HPS Consultant for Under Armour. Natasha established the Natasha Hastings Foundation in 2018. The Olympian gold winner founded the charity to motivate and financially support women who have qualified for high school nationals but cannot afford to go.
William and Natasha have a son
Natasha and William, a former athlete, have their only child, William Rydell Gay, Jr. on August 6, 2019. Natasha previously published her pregnancy experience on the Maeband website. Natasha wrote in her pregnancy notebook about her worries about her work. When Natasha was five months pregnant and showing courage, she had the courage to contact her sponsor, Under Armour. The Olympian expected to be thrown out, but to his surprise, everyone cheered for him. In an interview with CNBC, Hastings said, “It’s almost like I’ve been torturing myself for five months thinking about all the possible outcomes.”
But apparently after the birth of their baby, William and Natasha chose to separate. On his son’s first birthday, William uploaded an Instagram photo referencing their split. He posted a photo of him and Natasha with their baby, Liam, with the statement, “We may have some differences as adults, but raising Liam requires maximum effort from both sides.” He has a mother and father who love him with all their heart.
Natasha and William have posted many Instagram images featuring their child. Natasha allowed her son to attend her master’s graduation ceremony last year. The former NFL star was also seen driving his son to work, with additional photos showing Liam on the football field.
