With Santos gone, Gaetz frets GOP could lose its majority within months

Firebrand representative Matt Gaetz predicted that the expulsion of Rep. Long Island’s lying George Santos could undermine the Republican majority in the House of Representatives.

Gaetz (R-Fla.), who led a rebellion against former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in October, warned that other Republicans may be on their way out of the lower house.

“Our willingness to injure ourselves on this thing really affects our ability to get the job done,” Gaetz lamented on “The Charlie Kirk Show.”

The challenger Santos (R-NY) became the sixth member ever to be expelled from the House on Friday when 105 Republicans backed an effort to oust him.

With the removal of Santos, the majority of the Republican Party in the lower house was reduced to one.

Gaetz called Santos’ removal “tactically foolish” and worried that other members of the State Assembly could soon leave.

“Congressman Bill Johnson of Ohio has taken on the presidency of a college university that could drop us in two. And I don’t think Kevin McCarthy will last long,” he said.

“We’ve got a bunch of these octogenarians in our conference. If, God forbid, any of them cross the Rainbow Bridge, we’ll be in a situation where we could really lose the majority because we’re so anxious to get rid of George Santos before he’s convicted. .

Gaetz blasted efforts to impeach the scandal-plagued representative, calling for more due process and arguing that the scandal involving New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez, who was indicted on corruption charges in September, was more troubling.

The vote to oust Santos came in the wake of a damning report from the House Ethics Committee that alleged he “openly stole” campaign funds.

Notably, Gaetz is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee which is believed to focus on allegations that he used illegal drugs and engaged in sexual misconduct.

Gaetz has denied the allegations against him. McCarthy publicly claimed Gaetz was determined to oust him because he refused to intervene in the investigation.

The Florida congressman strongly rejected the allegations from McCarthy.

Earlier this year, federal prosecutors officially decided not to pursue charges against Gaetz following a similar investigation.

Santos also faces a 23-count indictment for alleged embezzlement, defrauding donors and more.

Since his dismissal, Santos has embarked on an apparent revenge tour against members of Congress, announcing plans to file several ethics complaints against lawmakers.
