During the final interview of Bird’s 20-year career, after the Seattle Storm were eliminated from the playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces, Bird, 40, told Holly Rowe how he felt. “Sad. Obviously very grateful for 20 years here. I’m going to miss it a lot. I’m not going anywhere but I’m going to miss it,” he said. “I wish we could have done a little bit more to get to the finals but I’m very proud of this team this year. I’m very, very, very proud to be a member of the Seattle Storm. It’s been my honor to play for this franchise, to play for these fans. I don’t know what else to say.”

The Storm lost 97-92 in a tough game 4 semifinal series. Bird initially walked with his team off the court before turning around and walking back out. During Bird’s final WNBA postgame press conference, she said, “I didn’t really want to leave the court. It felt like that’s where everyone was going, so I just followed at first. Ending His Career: “Overall Feels Kinda Weird”
Not too long after the loss, Bird said he was still trying to figure out how he felt about meeting the end of his career. Bird and her team hoped to end her final season with another WNBA title, which would have been her fifth, but were unable to defeat the Aces. “I think at first I felt sad about the season and the game. I then thought, when the emotions started to surface, that’s what I knew deep down, it was my last game,” he explained. “So it’s a combination of those two things, but overall it feels a little weird.”

Walking Out Of Court For The Last Time: “Thank You, Sue!”
When asked what legacy he leaves behind, Bird replied, “I hope the next guy that comes in and plays point guard here, just keeps the tradition going. Keep winning. Keep that championship level going. Keep these fans happy. The same goes for the rest of the team, too, but I hope I made everyone here proud.” As she left the ring for the last time, she greeted fans as they took pictures and chanted “Thank you, Sue” over and over.
