A British man’s wedding anniversary spins out of control when a Peruvian wolf spider bites him and lays eggs on his toe — with babies hatching inside and “eating their way out.”
Colin Blake and his wife were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary on a cruise to France when he woke up to find one of his big toes had turned purple, the BBC reported Monday.
Blake visits the doctor on board and discovers he has been attacked by an eight-legged venomous hunter while eating out in Marseille.
He was “completely unaware” that he was bitten – because the spider immobilizes its prey before laying its eggs.
“My wife thought it might be because I had new sandals and they rubbed against my big toe and that caused it to turn red,” he told the outlet.
Doctors cut off her toe, releasing a milky pus containing spider eggs, but four weeks later Blake discovered she still had a “foreign body” in her foot, the outlet said.

“One of the spider eggs hadn’t been watered and must have hatched,” Blake said.
“They believed the spider was coming out — eating its way out of my toes.”
Antibiotics killed the creepy young crawler, but Blake’s toes had to be amputated a second time to remove its body.
“I asked if I could keep it, but they said no,” he quipped.
Peruvian wolf spiders reportedly came to France from South America aboard a cargo ship.
Their venom is not fatal to humans, according to Orkin, a pest control company.
