Woman caught on camera throwing dog off the top of a parking garage in grueling security footage: ‘I did her a favor’

The moment a pet owner threw his dog off the top of a Westfield, Australia multi-storey garage was revealed on shocking CCTV.

The woman was seen walking back and forth from her partner’s car to the edge of the car park – before launching her terrified Maltese shih-tzu, Princess, over the edge.

The princess was later dropped off after suffering horrific injuries, with a passer-by assuming she had been hit by a car.

The owner, a 26-year-old woman, later confessed to the crime on Facebook and has since been jailed for 12 months.

The sad incident, which happened in April last year, was caught on CCTV at the Westfield Whitford City shopping centre, north of Perth.

The woman has also been banned from owning animals for 10 years.

Her 23-year-old partner from Madeley, who was present during the incident, was fined $2500 and banned from owning animals for three years for failing to obtain vet care for the Princess.

Scary incident

CCTV footage shows the woman arguing with her partner, repeatedly dangling her ten-year-old daughter over the edge of the garage, and allowing her to walk along the edge of the roof for around eight minutes.

The footage shows him finally throwing the Princess over the edge of the roof.

The princess was rushed to a nearby veterinarian and found to be in shock with severe injuries, including possible internal bleeding, brain injury, and spinal and pelvic trauma.

The vet checked Princess’s microchip and contacted the woman, who was listed as her owner.

The woman attended the vet with her partner to discuss the extent of the dog’s injuries and the cost of treatment, ultimately deciding on euthanasia.

Less regret

In sentencing, Magistrate Mark Millington said the woman had left the Princess to die in what he described as a “planned, deliberate and deliberate act.”

She said he showed a lack of remorse and consistently tried to deflect blame and make excuses for his behavior.

The woman also admitted to the brutal act on Facebook, saying she couldn’t “live with the guilt”, but later deleted the post and told police her account had been hacked.

Dogs can be so ‘believing’

RSPCA WA Manager Inspector Kylie Green described the incident as “the most distressing” she had seen in her 11 years on the job, labeling it a “callous display of animal cruelty and very defiant.”

“Dogs can be very trusting, and they rely on their owners to keep them safe. I can’t think of a more disgusting betrayal of that trust,” he said.

“Today’s verdict provides some justice for the pain and violence the poor Princess endured in her final hours.

“I hope it also sends a clear message to society that deliberate cruelty to animals is very serious and will not be tolerated.”
