Woman charged with fatally stabbing hubby on camping trip as group sat around fire

A woman accused of murdering her husband on a camping trip “remembers nothing” about the alleged incident, it has been claimed.

Ilknur Caliskan is accused of murdering Serdar, her husband of 25 years, while the couple were enjoying a break with friends at Mount Disappointment in Australia on Saturday night.

A lawyer acting on behalf of the family said the alleged incident took place in front of three couples as the group sat around a bonfire.

The couple’s grown children said their parents were “very happy” and had just returned from an overseas trip to Turkey two weeks ago, the Herald Sun reported.

Ilknur’s lawyer Marcus Denning said he was “not in a position where he understands anything about that night.”

“What has happened has happened in the context of people sitting around a campfire.”

Serdar and Ilknur Caliskan live with their grown son and daughter in Craigieburn, Melbourne.

“It was an unusual case with no evidence of intent to kill, no motive, and no evidence of prior violence,” Denning said.

“It was just a horrible event.

He died at the scene.

Ilknur was arrested at the scene and charged with murder on Sunday evening.

He will return to court for a committal citation on December 19.
